ROCK HILL, S.C. — After safeguarding the net to secure a ranked win, Ben LoPiccolo of the Catawba College men's lacrosse team was named the South Atlantic Conference WePlayed Sports Specialist of the Week on Monday afternoon.
LoPiccolo amassed 17 saves on 27 shots faced in the Catawba Indians' 11-10 overtime victory over 11th-ranked Saint Leo on Saturday. With the performance, the sophomore goalie stands at 4-0 in net this season while his career record is a winning 7-5.
Among SAC goalies, LoPiccolo's .573 save percentage leads the league with his goals-against average of 8.93 standing second.
Debuting in the USILA coaches poll at No. 16 this week, Catawba battles another top-20 squad on Wednesday, Mar. 4, when 17th-ranked Newberry comes to Shuford Stadium for the home and SAC opener.
