Rehrer’s golden goal secures hat trick, overtime win over Railsplitters

HARROGATE, Tenn. — For the second straight Saturday, the Catawba College men's lacrosse team claimed an overtime win on the road with a 12-11 triumph at Lincoln Memorial. Statton Rehrer tossed in the golden goal to chalk up Catawba's first South Atlantic Conference victory.

TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (5-1, 1-1 SAC) had solid command of the shot count at 46-36 although Lincoln Memorial (4-2, 1-1 SAC) tightened the split to 25-21 in shots on goal
- Both sides recorded 19 turnovers, but LMU was credited with 12 caused turnovers while Catawba had six as a team
- The Railsplitters were flawless on the clear in the second half at 11-for-11, going 25-of-28 (.893) on the day; the visitors got hemmed up in transition as reflected by a season-low .704 clearing percentage
- LMU won the ground ball battle handily with a 33-24 gap in pickups
- Catawba prevailed in the faceoff category 15-11, anchored by Cael Petroff with 14 wins
- The goalies had similar days as Ben LoPiccolo made 10 saves while LMU's Jayden Herman tallied 13 with a save percentage a touch over .500

INDIVIDUAL STATS
- The freshman Rehrer achieved his second career hatty on a team-high 12 shots, putting eight on goal
- Michael Lindsey logged his first multi-score performance of the year with a pair of darts
- Micah Stechmiller put together a two-point day, both scoring and assisting a goal, while he and Petroff scrounged up a team-best five ground balls
- Including Stechmiller, seven Catawba Indians scored one goal apiece highlighted by Boston Rehrer and Hunter Clarke who found paydirt on their lone shots
- Andrew Crumpacker and Ty Hicklin, former teammates at Salem High School, netted their first goals of the year with Hicklin's being his first collegiate strike
- Xan Varner collected three ground balls, tying his highest mark since the 2024 season opener
- Chalking up two takeaways, Kier McKnight led a five-man group of players with a caused turnover
