ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — The Catawba College men's golf team closed its first day of competition in the spring semester in third place on Monday, performing well against a field that includes six other top-25 programs at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial.
Catawba recorded a two-over-par team score in the first round, good for second in the field, but stumbled in the second round to settle for a 588 (+12) worthy of third place thus far. Eighth-ranked St. Mary's (Texas) has led the pack from the start using back-to-back one-under rounds, followed by North Georgia who jetted into the second slot with an even-par Round 2.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Antoniadis ripped a three-under 69 in the opening round, the second-best in the field, with only one bogey before leveling out to even par at day's end
- Esnault also registered a below-par opener with a 71, then stumbled early in the second round but two birdies and an eagle in succession to start the back nine helped the Frenchman retain a top-10 position
- Barker countered a plus-three back nine with three birds in a front-nine 35 to begin the day at 74, tacking on a 75 in the second round to enter Day 2 in 23rd
- Making his season debut, Lockwood turned in a modest 76-74 scorecard that featured an up-and-down second round that saw just five pars tallied
- Carter followed up a first-round 81 with a much-improved 76, shaving off seven shots in the back nine alone
- Despite competing as an individual, Kapur was Catawba's biggest mover from Round 1 to Round 2, posting an 80 to begin the day before cutting eight strokes off by shooting par in the second 18
