Four Catawba Indians garner USILA All-Region honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Catawba College men's lacrosse team had four student-athletes appear on the USILA All-South Region Team announced Tuesday afternoon.

Owen Conway and Kier McKnight were placed on the third team while Statton Rehrer and Tanner Stout garnered honorable mention status. The same four players were Catawba's representatives in the South Atlantic Conference awards release.

Across 11 games, Conway corralled a team-high 25 caused turnovers and led all field players with 35 ground ball pickups. He hit his five-takeaway ceiling on three occasions including the blitzing of fourth-ranked, NCAA Tournament semifinalist Anderson. The Marylander also scored in two of the first three tilts with long-pole goals in road wins over Belmont Abbey and Barton. The All-SAC Second Team honoree currently ranks 11th in program history with 50 swipes thanks to back-to-back seasons with 25 caused turnovers.

McKnight was an unsung talent in the defense, but rose to the occasion late when Conway was sidelined. The junior short-stick totaled 25 ground balls and nine caused turnovers, as well as a trio of goals on the attacking side. McKnight did major damage in the season's final week against NCAA at-large squads Wingate and Anderson, tallying two caused turnovers in each tilt with five ground balls across the pair. Before halftime at Wingate, he cut the gap to 5-4 against the No. 3 Bulldogs with a strike from nearly midfield as the horn sounded.

Rehrer, the SAC Freshman of the Year, found paydirt 21 times with 11 assists for 32 points in his rookie campaign. The Mooresville, N.C., product scored twice with a man advantage against NCAA quarterfinalist Lenoir-Rhyne, largely contributing to his five total power play darts. He played the hero in Catawba's first conference win of the season at Lincoln Memorial, netting the golden goal to notch the squad's second overtime victory in consecutive Saturdays.

Stout recorded the second-highest scoring output in program history with 50 goals, adding 12 assists for a monster 62-point season. He was one of the most accurate shooters in the country with a .431 success rate while putting 65.5% of his shots on frame. Stout scored in all but one contest and went on a five-game streak of scoring at least five times. The junior attackman's goal total ranks second in Catawba history, just two behind the all-time record set by John Scheich in 2013.

The program has tripled its all-time USILA All-Region count to six with the previous two coming from Payton Leonard in 2021 and 2022.
