Virginia Beach, Va. — Catawba College seniors
Victor Smith and
Miles Stephens were selected to compete in the NCAA Division II Indoor Track and Field Championships, the NCAA announced Tuesday afternoon.
Smith will compete in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter dash, while Stephens will compete in the 200-meter dash.
Smith is coming off of a South Atlantic Conference championship-winning performance at the JDL Fast Track last weekend, setting the meet record with a time of 6.63 seconds, nearly a tenth of a second faster than the runner-up Stephens and a full two-tenths of a second faster than any non-Catawba sprinter at the SAC meet.
Smith also qualifies for the 200-meter dash after a fourth-place finish at the SAC Championships in which he still bested the previous meet record with a mark of 21.23 seconds.
Stephens was the runner-up in the 200m dash at the SAC Indoor Championships with a blazing 21.15-second mark in the event.
The two will travel to Virginia Beach, Va. to compete at the national stage March 13-14.
