Women’s Lacrosse’s physical defense limits Lenoir-Rhyne in competitive SAC tilt

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's lacrosse team captured an early lead over Lenoir-Rhyne on Wednesday night, but a gradual stream of Bear scores sealed a 10-3 South Atlantic Conference loss at Shuford Stadium.

TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians (3-5, 0-2 SAC) surrendered a 30-14 disadvantage in the shot count, including Lenoir-Rhyne's (3-5, 3-0 SAC) hefty 21-9 edge in on-goal opportunities
- Catawba recorded a season-high 31 turnovers while forcing the Bears to commit 24, the third-most by a Catawba Indian opponent this year
- Lenoir-Rhyne presented a polished transition game with a 21-for-25 (.840) clearing ledger as Catawba went .500 on the clear at 16-for-32
- The blue and white claimed an advantage in the ground balls sector, winning the category 26-23
- Draw controls were nearly down the middle with LR barely leading with an 8-7 count
- Ava Kunza snagged 11 saves on 21 shots for the Catawba Indians; Sally Friesen earned the win for LR with three denials

INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Maddie Fox registered a brace with two goals on two shots, raking in four ground balls in a solid effort for the freshman
- Sarah Maier found the back of the net on her lone shot attempt of the day
- Layne Macknik was credited with Catawba's only assist of the evening while adding a takeaway and one draw control
- Audrey Adelsberger caused a pair of turnovers with a career-high six ground balls, needing just one more to hit the century mark in her career
- Skylar Mullin chalked up the best defensive showing of her career, setting a personal best of four caused turnovers with four ground balls
- Allison Filosa logged her statistics in pairs as the sophomore notched two caused turnovers and two ground ball pickups
- Mary Sorvillo posted a solid night on the draw with four of the Catawba Indians' seven controls
