SALISBURY, N.C. — After losing the first two sets, the Catawba College men's volleyball team won the third and scored 29 points in the fourth, but fell short in its comeback attempt against the University of Charleston, 3-1, on Saturday night.
TEAM STATS
- Early woes kept the Catawba Indians' (2-4) hitting percentage lower than desirable at .144 despite a .308 clip in the third frame, while Charleston (5-5) enjoyed early success on a .279 day
- While the Golden Eagles were slightly better in aces at 6-4, Catawba was more polished on its serve accuracy with the error count at 25-21
- The visitors claimed a small lead in digs by a 38-32 margin
- UCWV set the Catawba program record for blocks by an opponent with 15 stops, rivaling the Catawba Indians' nine of which seven occurred in sets three and four
- The set scores were tied 36 times with 12 different lead changes, showing the match's highly-contested nature; furthermore, the fourth set included six set points split evenly at 3-3
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Justin Arrowood connected on 14 kills with two service aces, seven digs and four blocks in a true all-around performance
- Anders Christianson tied his career highs of nine kills and five digs with a personal-best .174 hitting percentage on the right side
- Jacob Brown capitalized on his first appearance of the year, striking five times with five blocks across the final two sets
- Mason Archer got the start at setter, marking the freshman's first collegiate action, and excelled with 31 assists, three kills, three digs and two solo blocks
- Max Adkisson broke into double figures for the second straight match, adding 10 digs with an assist
