SALISBURY, N.C. — Two programs broke open their record books with program-best marks in blocks as the Catawba College men's volleyball team rallied back from a 2-1 deficit and multiple match points to defeat Intercollegiate Volleyball Association foe Tusculum, 3-2, at Goodman Arena on Friday night.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (4-4, 1-0 IVA) struggled on the offensive front as a result of Tusculum's (6-3) heavy net game, surrendering the hitting percentage battle .194-.138
- In service, the Pioneers held a narrow 5-4 edge in aces while the squads combined for 26 errors
- Tusculum held a 47-39 dig margin with each squad tallying eight players with at least one dig
- Both the Catawba Indians and Pioneers recorded program bests in the blocks department with Catawba stopping 16 attacks as TU posted a dominant 22-block performance
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Wyatt Eastin took over the match in the fifth set, blasting a career-high 14 kills on a monstrous .619 clip with eight blocks including a five-blast, three-stop statline in the final frame alone
- Justin Arrowood and Anders Christianson led the Catawba pins with 12 strikes and seven digs apiece
- Christianson, Kekona Ulu and Logan Neitzel were a punishing trio in the middle, each recording five block assists in the victorious effort as Ulu and Neitzel both had eight-kill affairs
- Mason Archer rebounded from a mid-match slump with key sets as the freshman totaled 45 assists with four blocks (one solo), six digs, one kill and one ace
- Max Adkisson squared up to collect nine digs and one assist with his second career kill on an overpass that the Pioneers mishandled
