Salisbury, N.C. — Catawba College senior Mary Spry scored a career-high 29 points in the Catawba Women's Basketball team's 101-73 loss to South Atlantic Conference leader Carson-Newman at Goodman Arena on Friday.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Carson-Newman shot 40-for-74 (54 percent), while Catawba went 25-of-63 (40 percent) from the floor
- The Eagles were 10-for-29 (35 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians shot 5-for-20 (25 percent) from long range
- Catawba was 18-for-20 (90 percent) at the free throw line, while C-N went 11-for-16 (69 percent) at the charity stripe
- Carson-Newman out-rebounded Catawba 49-27; the Eagles' 16 offensive rebounds led to 23 second-chance points
- C-N recorded 18 assists to 15 turnovers, while the Catawba Indians had 14 assists to 12 turnovers
- Carson-Newman led in points in the paint (50-28) and bench points (38-17)
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Spry scored a career-high 29 points on 9-for-12 shooting from the field and 11-for-12 shooting at the free throw line with six rebounds
- Imani Williams was the other Catawba Indian in double figures with 10 points and a game-high six assists
- Brooklin Ingram splashed a three-pointer en route to a nine-point game
- Kaelyn Allen chipped in three triples for nine points
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Makayla Stokes knocked down a three-pointer as Catawba opened the game with the first five points
- Carson-Newman's 14-0 run flipped the advantage in their favor, holding Catawba scoreless for nearly seven minutes
- A late-three pointer pushed the C-N lead to 21-11 at the end of the first quarter
SECOND QUARTER
- Ten straight Eagle points extended the difference to 18 points early in the second
- Sheree Gidney and Williams answered back with baskets to get within 15 points
- Karli Haworth's three-pointer returned Carson-Newman's lead to 18, which was also the margin at half, 48-30
THIRD QUARTER
- Emily Gonzalez's layup extended the C-N lead to 22 points at the 7:57 mark
- The Eagles' advantage reached 26 points near the midway point
- Catawba chipped away in the latter half of the period, dipping within 20 points, but Carson-Newman restored their lead to 78-54 at the end of the third
FOURTH QUARTER
- Carson-Newman led 90-60 at the 5:52 mark
