Salisbury, N.C. — The Catawba College women's basketball team was held to under 30 percent shooting from the field in a South Atlantic Conference midweek loss to Newberry on Wednesday evening at Goodman Arena.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Newberry shot 21-for-46 (46 percent) from the field, while holding Catawba to 16-for-54 (30 percent) from the floor
- The Wolves were 7-for-16 (44 percent) from three-point range; the Catawba Indians went 1-for-15 (7 percent) from long range
- Catawba was 26-for-27 (96 percent) from the free throw line, while Newberry was 19-for-30 (63 percent) at the charity stripe
- The Wolves out-rebounded the Catawba Indians 36-29
- Newberry recorded 14 assists to 21 turnovers, while Catawba had five assists to 16 turnovers; the Catawba Indians led 20-14 in points off turnovers
- The Wolves led in points in the paint (26-20), fastbreak points (13-6) and bench points (23-16)

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- An 8-0 run allowed Newberry to take a lead near the midway point of the opening quarter
- Stokes' three-pointer capped five straight Catawba points to pull within a basket at the 1:29 mark
- The Wolves led 14-11 at the end of the first
SECOND QUARTER
- The Catawba Indians pulled to within a point, but Newberry responded with a 7-0 run to regain a multi-possession lead
- Six straight points pushed Newberry's lead to 12 to force a Catawba timeout
- The Wolves led 30-20 at the halftime break
THIRD QUARTER
- Ingram and Spry scored back-to-back buckets for Catawba to open up the second half
- Newberry responded with five straight points to restore their double-digit lead near the seven-minute mark
- A Leigh Harris three-pointer opened up a 15-point Newberry lead with just over two minutes to go in the third
- The Wolves led 50-35 with 10 minutes remaining
FOURTH QUARTER
- The lead reached 20 points on Harris' layup at the 7:22 mark
- An 8-0 Catawba run chipped the Catawba Indian deficit to 12 points near the midway point
- The lead got whittled down to eight points, but with under a minute remaining
