Mars Hill, N.C. — The Catawba College women's basketball team forced 25 turnovers and knocked down 10 three-pointers in a bounceback road win over Mars Hill on Saturday in South Atlantic Conference play.
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba shot 24-for-65 (37 percent) from the field, while Mars Hill was 16-of-47 (34 percent) from the floor
- The Catawba Indians were 10-for-31 (32 percent) from three-point range; the Lions went 4-for-18 (22 percent) from deep
- MHU was 24-for-33 (73 percent) at the free throw line, while Catawba was 17-for-31 (55 percent) at the charity stripe
- The Catawba Indians held the slight edge in rebounding, 44-42; Catawba's 19 offensive rebounds helped them to 20 second-chance points
- Catawba had 12 assists to 13 turnovers while limiting the Lions to three assists and 25 turnovers; the Catawba Indians led 24-9 in points off turnovers
- Catawba led in points in the paint (26-24) and bench points (24-19), while MHU held a small lead in fastbreak points

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST QUARTER
- Mars Hill's Kindan Dawson connected on a three-pointer to give the Lions an early 9-3 lead
- Gidney went on a personal 6-0 run to tie the game near the midway point
- The Lions rallied back to lead 16-12 after the opening 10 minutes
SECOND QUARTER
- Ingram canned a fastbreak triple ahead of a layup from
Julie Janus to flip the lead to Catawba's favor at the 6:29 mark
- Williams also connected on a three-pointer before the end of the half to give Catawba a slight 29-27 lead heading to the halftime locker room
THIRD QUARTER
- Williams buried another triple before a pair of Stokes free throws pushed the Catawba lead to seven early in the second half
- Stokes knocked down a three-pointer to break Catawba's lead open up to 41-30 just over two minutes later
- The lead oscillated in the 9-14-point range for the rest of the half with Catawba up 57-44 with 10 minutes to play
FOURTH QUARTER
- The Catawba Indian lead grew to 19 points in the fourth quarter following a 9-0 run
- Stokes' pair of free throws pushed the Catawba advantage to a game-high 22 points at the 2:34 mark
- The Lions scored nine of the game's final 11 points with the result firmly in hand with Catawba picking up their fifth league win of the season
