PREVIEW: Women’s Basketball makes home debut against Shorter

Salisbury, N.C. — The Catawba College women's basketball team makes its debut in front of the home Goodman Arena crowd on Wednesday when it hosts Shorter at 5:30 p.m. in non-conference action.

THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
- Catawba plays in its first game at Goodman Arena this season in the team's sixth game, the farthest into the season for the home opener since the 1984-85 season
- Catawba Women's Basketball has had great success in Goodman Arena, most notably winning 34 consecutive home contests from February 2022 to March 2024
- Last year's team was 10-4 at home, with its lone non-conference home loss coming to 23rd-ranked North Georgia

- Senior Mary Spry has seen an uptick in usage through five games, averaging 21 points per game, good for second in the SAC
- She's made over 52 percent of her field goal attempts, also ranking second in the SAC
- She scored 20 or more points in each of her first four games this season; she had just one 20-point game in her previous three seasons with the Catawba Indians

- Brooklin Ingram has stepped into a bigger role as well in her junior campaign, playing over 26 minutes per game, up from an average of 9.1 minutes per game through her first two seasons
- Ingram has let it fly from long range, knocking down 13 three-pointers through five games, already two short of her full-season total from her sophomore season
- Ingram's 40.6 percent currently ranks fourth in the SAC, while her total ranks sixth
 
ABOUT THE HAWKS
- Shorter was picked to finish sixth in the Conference Carolinas preseason poll
- The Hawks have split their first two league games of the season, besting Southern Wesleyan at home after falling to league favorite Francis Marion on the road
- The team split a pair of Peach Belt matchups against Flagler (93-88 win) and Clayton State (77-75 loss)
- Shorter ranks third in the country with a 41.2 three-point percentage as a team; Aijah Manning has four double-doubles through five games
