Salisbury, N.C. — The 3rd-ranked Catawba College baseball team fell for just the second time in Newman Park in 2026 in a midweek contest to Mount Olive, 8-5, on Tuesday afternoon.
TEAM STATISTICS

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Logan Dyer was 3-for-4 with two triples, driving in a run and scoring two
- Brandon Crabtree was 2-for-3 with a walk and three RBI
- Nathan Chrismon singled twice, stole two bases and scored two runs
- Sam Hunter added a pair of hits with a stolen base and an RBI
- Braeden Major, Kaden Neuman and Seth Sharpe combined for 2.1 shutout innings in relief
HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- Josh Mason tripled to left center and scored on a passed ball for the game's first run
- Dyer answered with a leadoff triple in the bottom half
- Crabtree scored him on an RBI groundout
SECOND INNING
- Jakhari Howard led off the second with a double and advanced to third on a failed pickoff
- Jeremiah McLemore's RBI single regained the lead for UMO
- Chrimon's two-out bunt single started a two-out rally for Catawba in the bottom half
- Dyer tripled down the right field line to score him, tying the game at 2
- Crabtree's infield single gave the Catawba Indians a 3-2 lead
THIRD INNING
- Mason doubled to put two runners in scoring position for Mount Olive
- A wild pitch scored the tying run
- UMO took the lead on Rowan Watt's single to left field
FOURTH INNING
- A single, a walk and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases with two outs in the fourth for Catawba
- Hunter's bunt single tied the game at 4
FIFTH INNING
- Two walks and a hit-by-pitch loaded the bases for Mount Olive in the fifth
- The Trojans drew a bases-loaded walk to regain the lead
SIXTH INNING
- Chrismon was hit by a pitch and stole second to lead off the sixth
- Crabtree's opposite-field base hit scored him to tie the game again at 5
SEVENTH INNING
- Mason homered to lead off the seventh for UMO
EIGHTH INNING
- With two runners on, Mason singled to left field to complete the cycle, but Dyer threw out the runner at the plate to keep the deficit at one
- Catawba loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom half, but was unable to score
NINTH INNING
- A sac fly and a two-out single added two insurance scores for Mount Olive in the top of the ninth
