Salisbury, N.C. — The seventh-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team opened up South Atlantic Conference play with a 4-0 win over Carson-Newman at the Johnson Tennis Courts on Wednesday.

HOW IT HAPPENED

DOUBLES

- Mateo Berne and Alessandro Valletta earned a quick 6-0 win at #3 doubles

-  Agustin Mastri and Luca Bergonzi helped clinch the doubles point with a 6-2 win at the top-ranked doubles match

- Alen Bill and Santiago Passoni were tied 4-4 when the doubles point was clinched

SINGLES

- Ryosuke Inagawa added to his win totals with a 6-4, 6-0 win at #5 singles

- Valletta followed with his second victory of the day, this time at #6 singles, 6-3, 6-2

- Mastri clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win against C-N's top-ranked singles player

- Berne led 7-5, 4-3 in the #3s match when the clinch points was reached

- Bergonzi and the #4 Eagles opponent were tied at a set apiece at the match's conclusion
