SALISBURY, N.C. — The 13th-ranked Catawba College men's lacrosse team fell to No. 12 Lenoir-Rhyne, 22-8, in South Atlantic Conference action at Shuford Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (6-2, 1-2 SAC) was out-attempted 51-30, but managed to clip Lenoir-Rhyne (3-3, 1-2 SAC) in the fourth quarter 11-10
- The Bears nearly doubled Catawba in the shots on goal category with a 32-17 margin
- LR was hindered by 22 turnovers, while Catawba wound up with one fewer miscue at 21
- The squads were very comparable on the clear, each recording three fails as the Catawba Indians went 19-for-22 (.864) against the Bears' 18-for-21 (.857)
- The visitors were dominant in ground balls 50-23, largely attributed to their success on the faceoff dot led by Matthew Mancini with 19 wins; for Catawba, Cael Petroff notched eight triumphs
- Ben LoPiccolo made seven saves in 45 minutes before Broden Clemons-Ellison relieved in the final quarter, tallying three stops; Gavin Stabile took the win for LR, registering five saves on nine attempts
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Three Catawba Indians recorded two-goal, one-assist days in Boston Rehrer, Statton Rehrer and Garrett Simi
- Jack Mercer and Kier McKnight, for the second time in his career, got involved on the scoresheet with one goal apiece as Peyton Turner and Micah Stechmiller each logged an assist
- Behind Petroff's four ground balls, Stechmiller and Michael Lindsey collected two ground balls apiece to lead all field players
- Boston Rehrer, Peter Geraffo, Owen Conway and Ben Butterfield were each credited with a caused turnover
