SALISBURY, N.C. — Leveraging plentiful bench scoring and superior rebounding, the Catawba College men's basketball team stifled South Atlantic Conference foe Tusculum, 93-76, to improve to 10-0 at home. With the win, Rob Perron achieved the 200-win milestone in his tenure as Catawba's head coach.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (16-6, 11-5 SAC) had its second-best shooting day of the semester, landing 47.7% of field goals; Tusculum (8-14, 4-12 SAC) recorded a decent 41.1% clip
- The Catawba Indians drained 11 shots from beyond the arc for the second time in two weeks, making 36.7% from three-point range as the Pioneers swished nine triples with 33.3% efficiency
- Neither team was able to crack 70% at the free-throw line with Catawba going 20-for-29 (69.0%), narrowly better than Tusculum's 21-for-31 (67.7%)
- The hosts pounded the boards with a 43-34 rebounding margin that featured 14 offensive grabs, leading to a 27-9 domination in second-chance points
- Catawba came out on the low end of the turnover count, committing 11 against TU's 13 with an 8-6 advantage in steals
- The Catawba Indians' depth was put on full display as all 14 active players entered the lineup with none exceeding more than 21 minutes, contributing to 54 bench points
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Jordan Simpson went a blistering 5-for-9 from deep in a 19-point performance, chipping in five rebounds as well
- In 17 minutes, Zion McDuffie poured in a season-high 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting while nailing his lone three-point try
- Jashaun Hawkins, who paced Catawba against the Pioneers back in December, pitched in 11 points with five rebounds and a helper
- Jacob Bryant set a new career high in the scoring category with 10 points in his first game making multiple three-pointers
- Chase Daniel and Justin Banks led the rebound count with seven and six boards, respectively
- Carson Daniel dished out a team-high seven assists while LeVionne Lindsey followed close behind, registering a career-best six dimes (five in the second half alone)
