NEWBERRY, S.C. — The Catawba College men's basketball claimed its 20th win of the season by defeating Newberry, 76-61, in South Atlantic Conference action at Eleazer Arena on Wednesday night.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (20-7, 15-6 SAC) posted a below-average 40.3% shooting percentage but excelled defensively, limiting Newberry (10-17, 6-15 SAC) to the fifth-lowest clip by Catawba Indian foes at 38.0%
- The blue and white drilled 8-of-21 (38.1%) from long range, improving to 10-2 when making eight or more triples, while the Wolves' tough sledding was reflected beyond the arc on a 6-for-24 (25.0%) night
- Newberry left nine points on the table from the free-throw line, going 17-for-26 (65.4%) as Catawba was narrowly more efficient with a 14-for-20 (70.0%) ledger
- The Catawba Indians won the rebounding battle for the 20th time in 2025-26, topping the Wolves by seven grabs with a 41-34 final count
- The visitors' seven turnovers was Catawba's fourth-fewest this season while the defense forced Newberry to cough up the rock on 14 occasions
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Carson Daniel splashed three triples in an 18-point performance, the second-most of his career, with five grabs off the glass
- Ibra Athie scored in double figures for the fourth straight game, chipping in 12 points with seven rebounds and two assists
- Jashaun Hawkins made every second of his nine-minute cameo count, tallying 10 points featuring a 4-for-6 clip on free throws
- Justin Banks also broke into double figures in limited minutes with a 10-point day that included a 2-for-2 register from long range
- Solomon Tucker defended the rim with two blocks and swiped two steals, both team-high marks, as the senior forward netted three points from the charity stripe
- Chase Daniel was held scoreless but contributed elsewhere, leading the team with eight rebounds and five assists from the point

Locked into the No. 3 seed in the SAC Championship Tournament, the Catawba Indians head to UVA Wise on Saturday, Feb. 28 for a 4 p.m. tip. A Catawba win, Newberry win (over Lincoln Memorial), and Lenoir-Rhyne loss (to Carson-Newman) would allow the blue and white to overtake LR for the No. 2 seed.
