Salisbury, N.C. — The Catawba College softball team finished off an impressive six-game homestand over the weekend in which it out-scored its opponents 65-19 with a doubleheader sweep of Davis & Elkins on Saturday at Whitley Field.
GAME ONE | Catawba 8, Davis & Elkins 4
TEAM STATISTICS
- Catawba out-hit Davis & Elkins 11-9
- The Catawba Indians hit both homers in the game and four of eight extra-base hits
- The Senators committed both errors in the contest

HOW IT HAPPENED
FIRST INNING
- Flynn singled and advanced to third on a bunt
- Brianna Gallagher's RBI safety squeeze brought home the game's first run
- A two-out error allowed Altiers to reach base and McCorkle scored her on an RBI double to make it 2-0
SECOND INNING
- Wilkins walked and, like Flynn in the first, advanced to third on a bunt
- Boykin's bunt singled scored her to make it 3-0 Catawba
- Abbey Nixon's two-out RBI single put the Catawba Indians ahead 4-0
THIRD INNING
- Altiers hit a leadoff homer in the third before McCorkle followed it up with another of her own to make it 6-0 Catawba
- Three singles loaded the bases with still nobody out in the third
- Boykin drew a bases-loaded walk to drive home another run
- Flynn's sac fly had Catawba leading 8-0
FOURTH INNING
- Two singles followed by a double got D&E's first run on the board
- Another RBI single pulled the Senators to an 8-2 deficit
- D&E got caught in a rundown but scored before making the third out, trailing 8-3
FIFTH INNING
- Another RBI double from D&E scored their fourth unanswered run of the ballgame, but it would also be their last

THIRD INNING
- A two-out, two-run homer tied the game at two in the top of the third
- Gallagher's double set up runners on second and third with nobody out
- McCorkle's safety squeeze scored the runner to regain the lead
- Alexis Monroe dropped down another one to make it 4-2
- Molly Strider sent a double the other way to bring another run home
- RBI singles from Rachel Pressley and Boykin blew the game open with Catawba on top, 7-2
FOURTH INNING
- A solo homer from D&E made it 7-3
- McCorkle and Monroe doubles with two outs sent Catawba's lead back to five
FIFTH INNING
- The Senators' third homer of the game was a two-run blast that brought D&E to within three
- Flynn's solo homer started a two-out rally for Catawba in the fifth
- Gallagher's RBI double scored Nixon to go up 10-5
- McCorkle stayed red-hot with an RBI double to push the lead to 11-5
SIXTH INNING
- Flynn drove home Boykin to make it 12-5
- Gallagher's three-run homer met the mercy-rule limit – Catawba's fifth of the week
