EMORY, Va. — A crew of five double-figure scorers and four multi-time swipers took the Catawba College men's basketball team to victory at Emory & Henry, 78-65, on Saturday afternoon at the King Center.
TEAM STATS
- The Catawba Indians' (18-6, 13-5 SAC) shooting percentage of 43.7% was more or less par for the course, while the Wasps (14-10, 9-9 SAC) posted a below-par 41.8%
- Catawba flushed five of its 16 tries from long range against the 10-for-24 (41.7%) clip by Emory & Henry
- The Wasps were put on the foul line just 11 times, but they sank nine for an 81.8% efficiency; Catawba went 11-for-14 with a 78.6 hitting percentage
- The blue and white racked up 17 steals, their season high, for the second time this week while winning the turnover battle by a strong 22-13 margin
- The rebounding count favored the visitors at 40-33, but the defensive board totals matched at 24-all
- Given that the visitors' top scorers were post players, points in the paint drastically went the Catawba Indians' way at 46-26
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Ibra Athie piled up 14 points with four rebounds, three assists, two blocks and two steals
- Nick Walker came off the bench to collect 14 points with six boards in an efficient 16-minute cameo
- Justin Banks was all over the Wasps with 13 points, five blocks and a pair of steals
- Jordan Simpson scored 11 points and grabbed five boards, all on the defensive zone
- Chase Daniel fine-tuned his passing and pickpocketing skills with team highs of eight assists and six steals on top of a 10-point effort
- Jashaun Hawkins made four field goals including a triple for nine points in a brief 10 minutes of action
