PREVIEW: Women’s Volleyball set to host Highway 70 rival Lenoir-Rhyne

SALISBURY, N.C. — Following a week-long hiatus, the Catawba College women's volleyball team resumes South Atlantic Conference play on Tuesday evening against rival Lenoir-Rhyne at Goodman Arena.

Tango with No. 20
- The Catawba Indians last took the court against 20th-ranked Wingate last Tuesday, scoring a miraculous win in the first set before eventually falling to the Bulldogs in four sets
- Catawba dashed out to a 7-1 lead, but the 'Dogs evened it at 24-24 prior to a Sára Puskás kill and a Wingate error, which snapped the guests' 18-set winning streak
- Sofia Beard (15 kills, 10 digs) and Haley Moffett (24 assists, 11 digs) each registered a double-double
- Riley Hill served out a pair of aces while Lillie Kate Rogers and Sydney Wattles tallied one solo block apiece

Leading the Way
- Beard and Rogers rank eighth and ninth in conference standings for kills per set, averaging 2.96 and 2.88, respectively
- Martina Foster tops the lineup in efficiency with a .296 hitting percentage while totaling 42 kills
- Moffett and Hill share the team lead with eight aces apiece
- In the blocking category, Foster has the highest total (10) as Beard holds the top mark in solo blocks (4)

All-Time Series
- Catawba leads its series against Lenoir-Rhyne 57-45, but the Bears have gone 14-1 in the last 15 matches
- The last meeting was at Goodman Arena on Nov. 9, 2024, which saw Catawba take a set from an LR team that was receiving votes in the AVCA poll the week prior

Scouting the Bears
- Lenoir-Rhyne is off to a 8-2 start including a 2-0 clip in conference action, sweeping both Carson-Newman and Anderson
- At their season-opening tournament in Hickory, LR went 3-0 with a combined score of 9-1 versus the same foes Catawba went 1-2 and won four sets against
- The Bears slot first in the SAC and 18th nationwide with 87 total aces, recording 2.56 on a per-set basis
- Averie Dale leads all league servers with 20 aces and has posted a .356 hitting percentage
- Kayli Cleaver has hammered a team-high 116 kills while Hallie Brown paces the Bears at the net with 35 blocks (10 solo)
