SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's volleyball team was outlasted by the No. 20 Wingate Bulldogs, 3-1, in a fierce South Atlantic Conference opener on Tuesday night.
TEAM STATS
- Despite batting .238 in the opening set, Catawba (3-3, 0-1 SAC) wound up with an .081 hitting percentage compared to Wingate's (8-1, 1-0 SAC) mark of .145
- The Bulldogs held a 9-5 advantage in service aces as well as a 3-8 difference in service errors
- Wingate topped both defensive categories with a slight 74-69 edge in digs and a substantial 13-3 lead in blocks
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Sofia Beard supplied 15 kills on a team-best .294 hitting percentage and collected 10 digs for a double-double
- Lillie Kate Rogers and Sára Puskás had double-figure kills with 12 and 11, respectively
- Haley Moffett recorded a double-double using 24 assists and 11 digs
- Riley Hill collected 22 digs and a team-best two service aces while dishing out five assists
- Rogers and Sydney Wattles provided solo blocks while Moffett and Martina Foster teamed up for an assisted stop
NOTES
- Beard has recorded back-to-back double-doubles with three consecutive 10-dig performances
- Catawba snapped the Bulldogs' 18-set winning streak and tallied Wingate's first non-sweep win of 2025
- As an athletic department, Catawba has beaten or taken a set from its last three top-25 opponents at Goodman Arena (Women's Basketball beating #9 Coker, Men's Volleyball winning a set against #4 Hawai'i)
