#19 Women’s Soccer picks up 3-0 win over reigning region finalist Montevallo

Salisbury, N.C. —- The 19th-ranked Catawba College women's soccer team topped the 2024 South Region finalist in Montevallo 3-0 at Frock Field on Saturday despite taking on more than triple the amount of shots as it took. 

TEAM STATISTICS

- Montevallo out-shot Catawba 23-7

- The Falcons held a slight edge in shots on goal 6-5

- UM took 10 of 13 corner kicks in the contest

- Catawba was called for nine of 16 fouls on the afternoon

INDIVIDUAL LEADERS

- Bree Ehmer netted the winner in the sixth minute

- Maria Rayburm scored a goal for added insurance

- Ella Matthews buried her first goal of the season in the closing minutes

- Morgan Delair and Kylie Morin dished out assists

- Jenni Dahne earned the shutout, picking up a career-high six saves in goal

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

- Ehmer and Delair exchanged passes on a breakaway and Ehmer put away what would turn out to be the winner

- Dahne stepped up for two saves in the next 10 minutes to hold a slim lead at halftime

- Natalie Peterson sent in a corner that the Montevallo keeper deflected, but was followed by Rayburn for the score

- The Falcons were able to get two more shots on target, but Dahne came up with the stops

- Matthews lofted a shot over the UM keeper's reach for the Catawba Indians' third score of the afternoon

GAME NOTES

- Catawba's second 3-0 result over a 2024 NCAA Tournament team (Frostburg State)

- The Catawba Indians have scored at least three goals in each game this season, averaging 4.5 goals per contest

- Ehmer's fourth goal of the year keeps pace with the SAC lead

- The lone Catawba goal allowed this season was from 35 yards out

- Catawba Indians' third 4-0-0 start in the last four seasons

- "Any result is a good result. It definitely wasn't our best performance today, but to not have your best performance and win going away is fun to see."

HEAR FROM LUCY HACK

- "We didn't have our best performance, but we always find a way. We just stuck in there and showed our best grit and our best fight. It was tough, we deserved that 3-0 result today."
