#8 Men's Tennis' historic season ends in NCAA Tournament Second Round

Salisbury, N.C. —- The 8th-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team saw its most successful season in program history come to a close on Saturday when 15th-ranked and sixth-seeded North Georgia pulled out a third-set tiebreaker in the deciding match at the Johnson Tennis Center.

 

HOW IT HAPPENED

DOUBLES

- North Georgia earned the first two decisions in doubles play to pick up the first point of the match

 

SINGLES

- Marcos Castares earned a quick 6-1, 6-3 victory at #5 singles

- Mateo Berne followed up less than 20 minutes later with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at #2 singles to take a 2-1 lead

- North Georgia responded with wins at #3 and #4 singles to reach one victory away from the national finals

- Agustin Mastri pulled away with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory at the top-ranked court to leave the match to one final singles match

- Luca Accomando fought back from a 5-2 deficit in the decisive third set, fighting off multiple match points to lead 6-5 before falling in the tiebreak, 7-4
