Jefferson City, Tenn. —- The 10th-ranked Catawba College men's tennis team earned at least a share of the South Atlantic Conference regular season title on Wednesday with a 4-0 sweep of Carson-Newman.
HOW IT HAPPENED
DOUBLES
- Mateo Berne and Sebastian Zabala started off with a 6-1 win in the #3 doubles match
- Agustin Mastri and Luca Bergonzi pulled out the #1 doubles match with a thrilling 7-6 win, taking the tiebreak 9-7 to clinch the doubles point
SINGLES
- Ryosuke Iganawa earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in the #5 singles match
- Bergonzi made it a 2-0 day with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at the #4s spot
- Alessandro Valletta helped clinch the match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over the #6 singles opponent
- Berne led 6-3, 4-0 in #3 singles when the clinch point was reached
- Mastri led 6-4, 2-0 in the top-ranked singles match
- Thomas Kostka maintained his undefeated run in singles play with a 6-1, 5-4 win at #2s
