SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's basketball team prodded at its second-half deficit before breaking through late, swiping away a 71-68 victory from Chowan at Goodman Arena on Tuesday night.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (5-2) trailed Chowan (4-5) in shooting percentage by a 37.9%-44.4% margin, but the blue and white held 25-24 edge in total buckets
- The hosts were held to a pair of three-pointers while allowing the Hawks to drain seven from long range
- Catawba posted its second-best free throw percentage of the year at 19-for-22 (.864) as Chowan tallied the highest mark of any Catawba foe with a 13-for-15 (.867) clip
- Both the rebounding and turnover battles were won by Catawba, resulting in 39-34 and 19-13 advantages, respectively
- The Catawba Indians had more than double their opponent in the steals category, notching 15 takeaways compared to the Hawks' seven
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Nick Walker notched a 20-piece in the scoring column, going .500 from the floor and 6-for-6 at the free-throw line, with six rebounds, two steals and a block
- Justin Banks got into foul trouble early but was productive in 20 minutes with 12 points, one block and four offensive boards
- Carson Daniel contributed to a variety of categories, scoring eight points with six boards, four steals and three assists
- Chase Daniel posted similar numbers by netting seven points, grabbing five rebounds, swiping a team-high five steals and dishing out two dimes
- Jordan Simpson came off the bench to lead the squad in assists at four while also chipping in two steals and five points
