PREVIEW: Men's Basketball welcomes Chowan for non-conference matchup

SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's basketball team is slated to host non-conference foe Chowan on Tuesday at 7 p.m. inside Goodman Arena.

Split 'Em
- The Catawba Indians picked up their first South Atlantic Conference victory on Saturday with a 77-65 triumph over Lincoln Memorial
- LMU hit a jumper inside the last minute of the first half to tie it up at the break, but Catawba roared back in the second stanza featuring a mid-period 14-0 run to pull away
- Justin Banks topped the team in scoring with 17 points, going 9-for-9 at the free-throw line with a share of the squad lead in steals at three
- As Nick Walker was out for Catawba's home opener against USC Aiken, the Hattiesburg, Miss., native enjoyed a big Goodman Arena season debut with 15 points, four boards, two steals and a block
- Carson Daniel and Chase Daniel combined for 18 points, 14 rebounds, nine assists and four takeaways while shooting 50% from the field and 6-for-6 at the charity stripe

Block City
- On a per-game basis, Catawba ranks third in the country and first in the Southeast region with 6.00 blocks per tilt
- The blue and white boast the nation's fourth-best blocker in Banks who currently averages three denials in each game, totaling 18 in six contests
- The Schaumburg, Ill., product has jumped into sixth place in Catawba history with 108 career blocks; that mark is the program's best in over a decade
- Zion McDuffie has also been a productive swatter, coming off the bench in all six tilts to tack on eight blocks

Daniel Dimes
- Either Carson or Chase Daniel have led the Catawba Indians in assists in each matchup this season, including the exhibition at George Mason in which Chase shared it with McDuffie at three
- Carson's back-to-back eight-assist performances in wins against USC Aiken and Columbus State mark the blue and white's best single-game dime totals
- In the six counted games, the twins have topped the assist category evenly at three times apiece; Catawba is 3-0 when Carson is the leading distributor

All-Time Series
- Catawba is firmly in control of the series lead against Chowan, holding a 9-2 advantage despite the squads' last meeting in 2022 resulting in a 73-65 win for the Hawks
- The Catawba Indians are 4-1 on home court with victories in the previous two tilts, each occurring in 2015; the February meeting was 82-80 in overtime, while the December matchup was a tight 64-63 triumph
- From a head coaching standpoint, this will be the second edition of Rob vs. Rob (Catawba's Rob Perron and Chowan's Rob Burke)

Scouting the Hawks
- The Chowan Hawks sit at an even 4-4, but have dropped two of their last three contests; both losses were against common opponents at the Francis Marion Thanksgiving Classic (Lander and Columbus State)
- Chowan has played two SAC opponents this year, starting it off by hosting and going 1-1 with Lenoir-Rhyne (L, 98-95) and Tusculum (W, 75-68)
- Eric Gordon Jr. gives the Hawks a major spark with team-high marks of 4.4 assists per game, 2.13 three-pointers per game and a 92.6% success rate on free throws
- Damerius Summers poses a threat in the paint, using his 6-foot-8 frame to average 7.00 rebounds and total seven blocks with a team-best 53.8% field goal percentage
