SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College women's volleyball program will honor its senior class with a pre-match ceremony at the Friday night tilt against Anderson at Goodman Arena.
First-Set Flourishing
- Catawba dropped its Tuesday night matchup with Lenoir-Rhyne in Hickory, but managed to secure a 28-26 win in the opening set
- The Catawba Indians have gone 12-8 in first sets this season with their biggest victims including LR and 20th-ranked Wingate
- When Catawba has won the opening frame, the blue and white are 8-4; however, Catawba is 0-8 when losing the first set
Hitmaxxing
- The Catawba Indians rank fifth in the South Atlantic Conference with a .177 hitting percentage, pumped up by a solid .243 performance at Lenoir-Rhyne
- Lauren Patrick had a phenomenal day at LR with 13 kills on 19 swings with no errors for a .684 success rate
- Tuesday's mark was the best by a Catawba team in a losing effort in over a decade (since the 2014 season)
- Based on hitting percentage, Catawba has made a tremendous leap from 2024 to 2025 as last year's team finished at .094; the team's current mark is on track to be the best in Head Coach Brenn Ferguson's tenure
All-Time Series
- Anderson has had Catawba's number in the series that started quite recently in 2010, winning 22 of the 28 meetings
- The Catawba Indians have surrendered the last five matchups and seek their first win since the Nov. 1, 2022, five-set triumph at Goodman Arena; before that, Catawba had not been victorious since 2016
- Speaking of Goodman Arena, Catawba has been a tad better at home with a 4-10 record in the series on home floor
Scouting the Trojans
- Anderson, at 18-5 overall and 13-2 in conference, swept UVA Wise and Coker since dropping a set to Catawba last Thursday; neither opponent was able to crack 20 points in a frame
- Away from home, AU is 10-5 with most of their losses occurring against some of the country's best squads (Palm Beach Atlantic, LR, Wingate, to name a few)
- The Trojans are second in the SAC and 28th nationally with 13.71 kills per set, trailing only league leader Wingate
- Ellie Nieporte remains one of the conference's best setters statistically as her 9.64 assists per set and 752 total are good for third league-wide
