SALISBURY, N.C. — The Catawba College men's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to Newberry in the program's penultimate regular season match on Saturday night.
TEAM STATS
- Catawba (5-6-3, 1-5-3 SAC) matched the Wolves (6-3-4, 2-3-4 SAC) in shots with a 13-13 ledger
- However, Newberry fired with much better accuracy as the visitors outnumbered Catawba in shots on goal 7-2
- The Catawba Indians were slated to lead the match in corner kicks, but a second-half barrage allowed Newberry to even the count at 6-6
- The physical affair saw the Wolves lead 16-12 in fouls with an even 3-3 differential in yellow cards, but Catawba was also shown a red card
INDIVIDUAL STATS
- Tomas Kelly paced the Catawba Indians with four shots as he and Carlos Zapata accounted for the squad's on-goal deliveries
- Zapata and Adriano Melo logged three and two attempts, respectively, while four more players recorded one shot apiece
- All six seniors recognized in the pregame Senior Day ceremony saw action including Daniel Christofi who went the distance on defense
- Héctor Vara saved five of the Wolves' seven shots on frame in all 90 minutes
