Men’s Soccer bested by Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. — The Catawba College men's soccer team was upended by Mars Hill, 2-1, on a chilly Friday night at Meares Stadium.

TEAM STATS
- Despite being out-shot in the first half 5-4, Catawba (4-5-3, 1-4-3 SAC) overtook Mars Hill (4-4-7, 2-3-4) in the second 45 minutes for a 12-9 final tally
- The hosts found paydirt on both of their shots on goal, while the Catawba Indians booted five on-target balls and found the twine once
- Catawba had more fouls by the same 12-9 differential and were shown two yellow cards against the Lions' one
- Corner kick opportunities came at a premium; the Catawba Indians were fortunate to earn four chances as the Lions received none
- The visitors narrowly won the possession battle, controlling the rock for roughly 53% of the match

- Alex Payton blasted home his first career goal in the 83rd minute to avoid a clean sheet
- Lukas García Huidobro led the Catawba Indians with three shots as he and Payton paced the blue and white's offense with two shots on goal apiece

- Bautista Vecchi Ramello and Luca Türk appeared as reserves, marking both players' first action in over a month
- Héctor Vara spent all 90 minutes in net for the 10th time in the Spaniard's young career
