PREVIEW: Men's Basketball welcomes Lenoir-Rhyne to Goodman Arena Wednesday

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College men's basketball team celebrates the last day of classes in the fall semester with a Wednesday night skirmish against South Atlantic Conference rival Lenoir-Rhyne at 7:30 p.m.

 

Banks Rolls

- Saturday was Catawba's third consecutive game with a double-double performance as Justin Banks came off the bench to deliver 11 points and 11 rebounds

- Banks tied his career high of six offensive boards which produced five second-chance points

- The Schaumburg, Ill. product stands fourth in the SAC for offensive rebounds (2.57) and blocks (1.29) per contest

 

Slamsbury

- As a team, Catawba has thrown down 17 dunks this season for an average of 2.4 jams per game

- Nearly half of the squad's dunks have counted toward points off turnover as eight have resulted from takeaways

- Individually, Nick Walker leads the way with six slams followed by Banks at four and Shad Thomas at three

- Two of Banks' dunks were second-chance scores; his highlight-reel stuff to seal the season-opening win against Lander and a put-back slam on Saturday vs. LMU

- Catawba ranks inside the Top 20 in offensive rebounds per game (fifth, 16.71), steals per game (15th, 12.3), and turnover margin (16th, 6.9)

- Kris Robinson maintains the team lead in scoring at 13.3 points ahead of Walker who sits at an even 10.0 per game

- Banks, Montraivis White, and Zion McDuffie are averaging nine points apiece

- Walker and Ibra Athie have dominated the boards with 96 rebounds (39 offensive) combined

- In steals, White and Caleb Jones share the top slot with 15 apiece as White is in sole possession of the assists category with 26 dimes

 

All-Time Series

- Wednesday will mark the 220th meeting between Catawba and Lenoir-Rhyne in a series that dates back to the 1927-28 season

- LR has the all-time edge at 115-104, but Catawba holds a 48-27 edge in matchups confirmed to have been in Salisbury (since 1960-61, when locations are more reliable)

- Although the Bears took the last contest by a narrow 99-97 margin, the Catawba Indians prevailed in the previous three including twice on home court

- Catawba is +27 in point differential over the last four home games as LR seeks its first victory at Goodman Arena since Jan. 18, 2020 (91-85)

 

Scouting the Bears

- The Bears enter the week with a 6-2 record, falling to then-No. 24 Carson Newman for their only conference loss in five games

- LR checks in at ninth in the D2CSC Southeast Region media poll, positioned one slot behind the Catawba Indians

- Among the Bears' wins are double-digit triumphs over Clayton State and UVA Wise as the latter is LR's fourth victory in a row

- Four newcomers pace the lineup in scoring led by Monroe College (now Monroe University) transfer Ziare Wells' 17.0 points per game

- Former Florida A&M guard Hantz Louis-Jeune has tallied 15.2 points as he, Wells, and Conrad Luczynski (Eastern New Mexico transfer) are averaging six rebounds per contest in the young season
