PREVIEW: Women's Volleyball visits Anderson for midweek SAC match

SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba College women's volleyball team takes the court Tuesday night in a South Atlantic Conference duel on the road against the Anderson Trojans at 7 p.m.

 

One Week Ago

- Catawba opened its matchup last Tuesday against national vote-receiving Wingate on fire, scoring the four of the first five points before the Bulldogs surged ahead and never looked back in a 3-0 decision

- Sofia Beard and Sydney Wattles tied for the team high in hitting percentage at .182

- Haley Moffett topped the assist category with 18 helpers as Kary Hales and Riley Hill tallied double-figure dig totals

 

Last Time in the Palmetto State

- The Catawba Indians' last trip to South Carolina saw them collect a hard-fought 3-2 triumph over Coker on Oct. 4, marking the squad's first SAC win

- Hill's superb performance of 34 digs and three aces helped the sophomore libero garner SAC/WePlayed Defensive Player of the Week honors

- Offensively, the league was introduced to Lillie Kate Rogers who launched 18 kills with 13 digs for a double-double in her collegiate debut

- Catawba is 1-1 in the Palmetto State, preceding the victory against Coker with a straight-set loss at Newberry

 

Leaderboard Look-In

- In four matches, Rogers leads the squad with 3.23 kills per set and ranks first among hitters at 2.08 digs per set

- Jordan Danielson and Kelcie Love split the lead in total kills with 84 apiece while the pair is separated by just three attacks

- Setters Sydney McCutcheon and Moffett have posted 265 and 112 assists, respectively, in their first campaigns at Catawba

- Katie Clark has dominated the blocking game, collecting 22 blocks including five solos, and slots third on the team with 54 kills

- The dig (175) and service ace (15) counts are led by Hill as Hales has also crossed the century mark in digs at 132

 

All-Time Series

- Anderson holds a 20-6 advantage in the all-time ledger

- The programs met earlier this season on Sep. 20 as Anderson spoiled Catawba's home opener with a 3-0 decision

- The Trojans have prevailed in 12 of the last 13 matches including nine sweeps

- The Catawba Indians are 2-10 in Trojan country, falling in 10 straight trips as they seek their first victory at Abney Athletic Center since 2011

 

Scouting the Trojans

- The Trojans are winners of seven in a row, amassing a 12-7 overall record including an 8-3 log in conference play

- Five victories in the seven-match span occurred on home court, featuring back-to-back blankings of Mars Hill and Newberry

- Sophomore setter Ellie Nieporte was named the SAC/WePlayed Offensive Player of the Week after tallying 134 assists in the Trojans' three-game week; she currently leads the league with 10.27 helpers per set

- Ava Reeves has also been a key offensive weapon as the outside hitter ranks second in the SAC with 3.33 kills per set despite committing a conference-high 142 errors

- Brantley Chipley and Emily Campbell are eighth and ninth among SAC blockers, combining for 117 blocks in 19 contests
