WISE, Va. -- Catawba used a big edge on the boards and claimed a 95-81 victory over UVA Wise in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at the Prior Center. The Catawba Indians improve to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in SAC play, while the Cavaliers drop to 9-7 and 2-5.
Javeon Jones led Catawba with 24 points and nine rebounds, while Adrian Scarborough delivered a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kaleb Wallace tossed in 16 points with Kris Robinson adding 11 and DeAngelo Epps 10 more.
The Indians held a 48-25 edge on the glass and grabbed 18 on the offense end. That led to a 24-7 margin in second-chance points. Catawba shot 53% and made 13-of-28 form behind the arc. Bradley Dean led Wise with 20 points.
The hosts held small leads early in the contest as the teams swapped the lead eight times. Catawba began to pull away in the final eight minutes of the half. A put back by Scarborough was followed by a dunk by Jones and a three-pointer by Robinson to push the Indians up 36-30. Robinson added two more three-pointers as the lead grew to double digits at 46-35.
Catawba held a 53-44 lead at the half and stormed to a 21-point advantage in the opening four minute of the second half. The Indians held a double-digit margin the rest of the way.
Catawba travels to Wingate on Wednesday for a 7:30 p.m. tip with the Bulldogs.
