SALISBURY, N.C. – The Catawba men's soccer team ran its winning streak to five with a 1-0 victory over visiting USC Aiken on Saturday night at the Frock Soccer Complex. The win improves the Catawba Indians to 5-1 with the Pacers going to 1-4.
The Indians netted the lone goal in the 10th minute when Bautista Vecchi-Ramello collected a ball from Tom Savigar up the left side and tallied the winner. Catawba made that goal stand up over the final 80 minutes in keeping the clean sheet.
Catawba held a 16-6 edge in shots and did not allow the Pacers to get off a shot in the final half. USC Aiken's rally was slowed when they went down to 10 men with 38 minutes to play after a second yellow card was issued to Mohamed Abdallah.
Zak Stiffler stopped both Pacer shots on goal to record the shutout. Cason Donahue had four saves for USC Aiken.
Catawba returns to league action on Wednesday, hosting Wingate at 7:30 p.m. at the Frock Soccer Complex.
