WILSON, N.C. – Freshman Gabriella Moll recorded three top finishes and broke the school record in the 200-yard breaststroke to help the Catawba College women's swimming team defeat Barton College on Saturday. The women won a total of nine individual and relay events in the dual meet.
Moll had herself a day as she helped the 200-yard medley relay team to a win as the second leg. She then took the top spot in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.18. Not too long after, Moll made school history with a program-best time in the 200-yard breaststroke after finishing in a blazing 2:21.55. This broke the previous record that had stood in the event since 2009. She wasn't finished yet as she also took first place in the 200-yard IM by posting a time of 2:12.64, seven seconds faster than the next closest finisher.
Freshman Marit Reckmann also built on her solid start to her collegiate career with wins in the 200 and 50-yard freestyle events. Reckmann turned in times of 1:58.03 and 24.52 respectively. She was also a key part in leading both of Catawba's relay teams to victories on the day as well.
Also earning wins on Saturday were Lillie Martin in the 1000-yard freestyle, and Emily Heim in the 500 freestyle. Heim also swam anchor on both the Medley and freestyle relays in a pair of victories.
The women's swimming team will look to keep their momentum going in a tri-meet next Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne and Wingate.
