GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Catawba returned to action after a nine-day layoff and were swept by Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference volleyball action on Friday night at Pioneer Arena. The Pioneers won by the scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-22 to improve to 12-2 overall and 8-1 in the SAC. The Catwaba Indians fall to 7-6 and 4-3.
Catawba struggled offensively without its top attacker in Allison Bryant, who missed the trip due to CoVID protocols. The Lady Indians hit just 22% and were led by Arianna Colon's six kills. Ashley Johnson and Raytchelle Miranda each added five kills. Johnson posted three blocks and served three aces for the Lady Indians.
Tusculum got 17 kills from Raeley Matthews. Carli Pigza and Emiah Burrowes each had nine kills. Lydia Collins served three aces. The Pioneers hit at nearly 45% for the match.
Catawba is at UVA Wise on Saturday for a 6 p.m. match.
