GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- Catawba kept its hopes alive for qualifying for the South Atlantic Conference Men's Soccer Tournament with a 4-0 victory over host Tusculum on Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Field. The Catawba Indians improve to 8-6-2 overall and 4-5-1 in the SAC. The Pioneers drop to 1-10-2 and 0-8-2.
Joseph Allerton scored the opening goal and assisted on two others for Catawba. His goal came just two minutes into the match as he scored off a cross from Tom Savigar. The Indians made it 2-0 at the break when Savigar tallied from a free kick by Simone Trentin that was headed by Nico Morillo in the 27th minute.
Catawba iced the match with a pair of goals in a three-minute span midway through the period. Morillo scored in the 75th minute and Trentin in the in the 78th. Allerton and Savigar assisted on Morillo's tally, while Allerton sent a through ball in on the final score.
Catawba will host Newberry on Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Indians are tied with Wingate on 13 points and two points behind Coker entering the final match. Wingate hosts Mars Hill and Coker hosts Anderson.
