Capel's Two Early Tallies Fuels Women's Soccer to Win Over LMU

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Catawba grabbed a 3-0 shutout of visiting Lincoln Memorial in South Atlantic Conference women's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at the Frock Soccer Complex. Seventh-ranked Catawba moves to 13-0-2 overall and 8-0-1 in the SAC. The Railsplitters fall to 6-5-2 and 4-4-1.

Catawba got two goals from Maddie Capel in the opening 10 minutes to lead the Lady Indians. The goals were plenty for a Catawba defense that recorded its 11th shutout in 15 matches. Kelly Havens added a late goal to ice the issue.

Both of Capel's goals came off assists from Jovana Sanchez. The first came after Sanchez lofted a ball into the box that Capel headed inside the left post from the penalty spot. Her second came after Catawba forced a turnover at the top of the LMU box. Sanchez slid a ball to Capel who beat the keeper to the right from about 15 yards out.

The final goal came in the 79th minute. Kasey Hahn tracked down a clearance off a corner and sent a ball to the back post that Havens put home. Catawba held an 18-8 edge in shots and took seven corners to one for LMU.

Jamie Kazenmayer earned the shutout for Catawba. She recorded six saves. Isabelle Zukaitis made five stops for the Railsplitters.

Catawba's game on Wednesday against North Georgia has been canceled. The Lady Indians will return to action next Saturday for a 2 p.m. match at Tusculum.
