SALISBURY, N.C. -- Tom Savigar ended a high-scoring match with visiting Lincoln Memorial when he scored with three minutes left in the final overtime period to seal a 5-4 victory on Saturday night at the Frock Soccer Complex.
The Catawba Indians improve to 7-5-2 overall and 3-5-1 in the SAC. The Railsplitters move to 1-12-2 and 0-8-1.
Simone Trentin scored the first of his two goals in the match's 10th minute for an early Catawba lead. The Railsplitters put home the next two goals, Shanden Vergara in the 12th minute and Diego Alvarado in the 22nd.
Trentin equalized on a long shot just over a minute after LMU took the lead. That sparked two more Catawba goals. Joseph Allerton and Christian Dibb scored a minute apart to push Catawba up 4-2 after 30 minutes of play.
LMU drew within a goal when Arkin Ulusoy converted a penalty kick in the 74th minute. In the dying seconds, the Railsplitters drew a free kick at the top of the Catawba box. Alvarado equalized on the kick with just 22 seconds to play in regulation.
The Indians played the overtime with 10 men after a red card that gave Lincoln Memorial the free kick at the end of regulation. Both teams had several scoring changes before Savigar took a feed from Allerton to end the match.
The teams combined for 51 shots with Catawba taking 30. The Indians held a 9-4 edge in corners. Gianluca Tommasi made five saves for the Indians. Phillip Pressotto posted six saves for LMU.
Catawba will travel to Aiken, S.C., on Wednesday to face Montevallo in a neutral site match at 4 p.m.
