Greenwood, Ind. —- Catawba College women's swimming student-athletes Marit Reckmann and Fiona Byrne were named College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans, the organization announced Tuesday afternoon.
Reckmann, a junior from Nienhagen, Germany, earned First Team Academic All-American honors, boasting a 4.0 cumulative grade-point average in biology while earning All-American status in five events at the Division II Championships on top of being a four-time South Atlantic Conference champion.
Byrne, a sophomore from Ormskirk, England, is a Second Team Academic All-American with a 4.00 GPA in Biology and Psychology double majors. Byrne was also a multi-time All-American at the DII National Championships in Indianapolis, earning Second Team honors in the 1000 Free and 1650 Free, as well as a leg of the All-American 800 Free Relay team.
Reckmann and Byrne are the program's first Academic All-Americans since Erin Hyde earned the honor in 2005.
