ROCK HILL, S.C. — Máté Kenyeres of the Catawba College men's soccer team was named the South Atlantic Conference's Offensive Player of the Year on Thursday following an eight-goal senior campaign.
Kenyeres racked up a league-high 16 points on eight boots to the twine, helping Catawba claim five total victories and take a point in four SAC matches. The Budapest, Hungary, product collected three braces, going back-to-back in early-season wins over Francis Marion and Mount Olive. He also supplied the first goal in the SAC opener victory at Carson-Newman and netted the equalizer in a 2-2 draw at rival Wingate.
From his junior to senior season, Kenyeres made a mighty leap in opportunities with 11 starts (compared to none in 2024) and capitalized on them by quadrupling his goal total as the squad's primary striker. In doing so, he has become the Catawba Indians' third conference Player of the Year honoree and the first since Luke Griffith in 1998.
Kenyeres is the program's first All-SAC First Team forward since Gareth Turnbull and Zay-Zay Gilewala were both tabbed to the list in 2005. This is the fourth consecutive season that Catawba has earned an all-conference selection.
